Working to support the Curriculum for Excellence
The curriculum for excellence focuses on creating successful learners, confident individuals, responsible
citizens and effective contributors. iMAPs creative process enhances skills in verbal and non-verbal
communication, listening, turn-taking, music appreciation and greater understanding of others cultures.
Working closely with teachers in schools we develop workshops that give pupils a meaningful and involving
experience of music-making in relation to another culture as well as their own. We engage pupils in exploring
how culture affects culture. As much as we highlight the differences in musical styles and instruments used in
other cultures, we ALSO highlight the similarities that different cultures share hence helping pupils to
understand and accept that cultures are so intermingled that diversity is actually today's norm.
The creative music workshops we provide aim to help pupils with:
- creative thinking through cross-curriculum learning*
- international horizon
- team-work skills through participatory creative arts activities
- greater understanding of other cultures
- enhanced listening skills
*Cross-curriculum learning
Although iMAP is a music based organisation, the areas we focus on are broader than music. The participants
might explore, dance/movement (i.e. Tai Chi) as well as explore the culture/theme (e.g. tea ceremony,
healthy living) we are working on.
